About Us.

Hi there, welcome to Pebbles.

I'm Gina, a self-taught pastry chef and the founder of Pebbles.

Before I found my way into pastry, I spent a decade working as a fashion editor for leading magazines. My career took me between Paris, Seoul, New York and beyond, where I was immersed in a world of creativity, beautiful design and visual storytelling.

Travelling for work also gave me the opportunity to experience remarkable restaurants, pâtisseries and hotels around the world. Along the way, I developed a deep appreciation not only for exceptional food, but also for the kind of hospitality that makes people feel genuinely welcomed. Those experiences continue to shape the way I think about Pebbles today.

It was during my time as a fashion student in Paris that I first fell in love with French pâtisserie. I was drawn to its quiet elegance, its precision and the way it could be both beautiful and deeply comforting at the same time. What began as a fascination became a passion over 16 years, and after the pandemic I found myself spending more and more time in the kitchen, determined to learn everything I could.

As a mother of two, my baking journey began with celebration cakes for family and friends. Every cake became an opportunity to practise, experiment and improve. What started as late nights in my test kitchen slowly grew into something much more serious. I taught myself through countless hours of practice and spent time working in professional kitchens, where I was able to deepen my understanding of the food industry.

Pebbles grew naturally from that journey.

I have always seen it as more than a pâtisserie. It is a creative studio where flavour, design and hospitality come together. Every product is made with careful attention to both taste and appearance, using seasonal ingredients wherever possible and very little to no artificial flavours or colouring.

For me, food has always been about more than what is served on the plate. The moments we remember are often shaped by how we are welcomed, how we are looked after and how something simple can make us feel. That belief is at the centre of everything we do, whether we are creating a celebration cake, catering for an intimate gathering or welcoming guests into one of our workshops.

Today, you can order Pebbles online, visit us at the Christchurch Farmers Market every Saturday, find us through a growing number of retailers across Christchurch, or join us at our Sydenham Atelier for hands-on pastry workshops and tea and pâtisserie experiences.

Thank you for taking the time to visit Pebbles. I hope that through our pastries, workshops and gatherings, you'll find a place to slow down, celebrate and enjoy life's small pleasures.

I look forward to welcoming you.

xx
